Understanding the Principle

The principle of the first fruits was not limited to vegetation. It is found throughout the Word, it deals with all "first things". God claims the right to every first -- the first of every crop, every firstborn male of herds and flocks, every firstborn male child. Every first is to be devoted to God through his covenant. Anytime something is called a first thing, any first fruit, a devoted thing, it belongs to God. And, it is devoted to him, the Word of God declares that it is better to destroy it then to use it for yourself.

First Things First

God still considers first things to be holy and devoted to him, but today first fruits has to do with the practice of keeping the main thing -- the main thing, and God it is the main thing! First fruits means the first in place, order and ranch; the beginning, chief or principal thing period got says first things go along to him in order to establish redeeming covenant when everything that comes after. In God's pattern, what ever is first establishes the rest. The first is the root, from which the rest is determined. Therefore it is better to destroy your first fruits then to use any of it for your own personal gain.
